Moons

A natural satellite, often referred to as a moon, is an astronomical object that orbits a planet or a minor planet. In our solar system, there are 173 known moons orbiting the planets, with 8 more orbiting the smaller dwarf planets, adding up to 181 natural satellites in our system. Earth has only one, the grey, spherical moon named Luna. The gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn, however, have more than 60, with Jupiter having 67 satellites and Saturn having 62. Currently, we know of no exomoons (moons that orbit planets in other star systems), but there are 5 possible candidates that have yet to be confirmed.
