Planets

These are what you live on. Planets are astronomical objects that orbit a star. They are large enough to be rounded by its own gravity, but not large enough to cause thermonuclear fusion. Our solar system currently has 8 confirmed planets. They are (in order from closest to farthest from the sun) Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The 9th, which some call Planet 9 or Planet X, has not yet been fully confirmed to exist, but the evidence for it has amounted to the point where all we really need is a photograph of the object. On top of these 9, there are thousands of exoplanets that have been discovered in recent years. An exoplanet is a planet that orbits a different star from our own. As of 1 October, 2016 we have discovered 3,532 exoplanets in 2,649 planetary systems (star systems with at least one planet) and 595 multiple planetary systems (star systems with more than one planet) confirmed.
